TheBridge events are unique. They drive a conversation between the public and private sector, promote understanding and collaboration while catalyzing meaningful and lasting connections. Uncommon Conversations: National Geographic's Women of Impact

TheBridge partnered with Women of Color Advancing Peace and Security (WCAPS), Google and National Geographic on the first event in the WCAPS discussion series "Uncommon Conversations." This discussion series provides women of color and allies who work in tech the opportunity to candidly discuss issues at the intersection of technology, cybersecurity, and society in an intimate and invite-only setting.

This was an exclusive screening of National Geographic's new movie Women of Impact, a film highlighting barrier-breaking women including Robin Roberts, Dr. Jane Goodall, and Dr. Rae Wynn-Grant. Dr. Wynn-Grant, who joined for a discussion on her professional path. Women came to share their journey and strategize with the other attendees on how to be a Woman of Impact in male-dominated industries. Watch the trailer for Women of Impact movie here:

Dr. Rae Wynn-Grant is a large carnivore ecologist with an expertise in using field biology, statistics, and mapping to investigate how human activity influences carnivore behavior and ecology. Her research is conducted with black bears in the Lake Tahoe Basin, grizzly bears in Montana, and African lions in rural Kenya and Tanzania. She also leads field courses in wildlife ecology in East and Central Africa. A native Californian, Rae attributes her interest in wildlife and conservation from the television shows she watched as a child. Rae received her B.S. in Environmental Studies from Emory University, her M.S. in Environmental Studies from Yale University, and her Ph.D. in Ecology and Evolution from Columbia University. She completed a postdoctoral fellowship with the Center for Biodiversity and Conservation at the American Museum of Natural History. She is currently a Research Fellow with National Geographic Society and, when not in the field, lives in Washington, DC with her daughter.
